NUTRITION

Fat Loss? Make Protein Work for You.
When your goal is fat loss, it’s not just about the number on the scales. It’s about reducing body fat while preserving the muscle you’ve worked hard to build.
Protein plays an important role here. Alongside resistance training, adequate protein intake helps maintain lean muscle during a calorie deficit (when you’re consuming less energy than your body uses). Protein can also help you feel fuller and more satisfied between meals, making your nutrition approach easier to sustain.

Put it into practice with your F45 meal plan:

Your F45 Training Challenge app meal plan is a great starting point for building balanced, satisfying meals that support your Lean goals.

  • As you review this week’s recipes, look beyond the calories. Are your main meals providing a meaningful source of protein alongside fibre-rich carbohydrates, vegetables and healthy fats?
  • Look for meals featuring eggs, authentic Greek yoghurt, chicken, fish, lean meat, tofu or legumes. If a meal is lighter on protein, consider selecting another recipe or making a simple ingredient swap.
  • For example, you could choose authentic Greek yoghurt instead of a lower-protein yoghurt, add tuna or chickpeas to a vegetable-based salad, or replace part of a lower-protein filling in a wrap with chicken, tofu or tempeh.
  • The aim isn’t necessarily to eat more, but to make the meals you’re already enjoying work harder towards your goal, while keeping your overall intake appropriate for your needs.

Remember, fat loss doesn’t mean eating as little as possible. Your body still needs enough energy to train effectively, recover and preserve muscle.
Try this: Open your Challenge app and choose one meal from tomorrow’s plan. Identify one simple swap or adjustment that could improve its protein content and help keep you satisfied.

Key message: Sustainable fat loss isn’t about restriction alone. Adequate protein, satisfying meals, resistance training and an appropriate energy deficit all play a role in improving body composition.

WELLNESS

Don’t Overlook Sleep in Your Fat-Loss Plan
When you’re focused on fat loss, it’s easy to put all your attention on food and exercise. But the quality and consistency of your sleep can influence your progress, too.
Insufficient sleep can affect hunger, appetite regulation, energy levels, food choices and training recovery, which can all make maintaining sustainable habits more challenging.
Aim for 7–9 hours of quality sleep per night where possible, and establish a consistent bedtime routine. Nutrition can play a supporting role too. Foods such as authentic Greek yoghurt, milk, nuts, seeds and legumes provide nutrients including magnesium and tryptophan, which are involved in normal nervous system function and sleep-related processes.
Try this: Aim for a consistent bedtime and 7–9 hours of sleep each night. If you use a wearable device or sleep tracker, look beyond sleep duration and pay attention to trends in sleep quality, consistency and recovery. Remember, these metrics are estimates, so also consider how refreshed you feel when you wake, your energy throughout the day and your training performance.
If you’re hungry before bed, consider a light, nourishing snack such as authentic Greek yoghurt with pumpkin seeds or a glass of milk. Eating later in the evening doesn’t automatically prevent fat loss, your overall dietary intake and consistency matter more.
